From the day our children are born we are amazed at how they naturally grow and develop new skills. From their first smile to the time they graduate high school, childhood is a period of rapid development. Between birth and 3 years old alone, the brain is busy producing more than a million neural connections each second!
Sometimes this is where parents can begin to notice if their child isn't keeping up with their peers or siblings of a similar age (socially, emotionally, or academically).
If you are curious about your child's development, the WA Government - Department of Communities has a great resource. I also like that it demonstrates the impact of trauma on development across the stages. With family violence on the rise and global issues affecting us all, trauma is becoming more common in childhood. I will write more on childhood trauma in a future blog.
